A slightly belated intro to "Somewhere In Between"

Whew! Megan here...first and foremost I hope every one of you had a fabulous holiday! Whether you choose to celebrate Thanksgiving, or you could care less but don't mind a four day weekend, I hope you enjoyed some good food and some much needed rest. (If you work in retail, my sympathies.)

It has been a busy month for me since Latchkey's convention debut at Long Beach Comic Con. That very same weekend marked the online launch of my new webcomic, "Somewhere In Between", and after a brief break after the con, I've been in my usual spot, hunched over the drafting table drawing new strips.

With "SIB" five installments in, an introduction here on the blog might seem a bit overdue, BUT...now you guys have plenty of reading to start with!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hope you all have had a great Thanksgiving and you stuffed yourself silly.  Hopefully this was not the scene at your house:

We are working hard to bring Latchkey to you in new ways. So if you missed us at Long Beach; hold on. We're working on coming to a store near you.  In the mean time I thought I would share a little treat with you in the form of Sara Richard's latest beautiful creation. Enjoy!

The New Kid: Art of Sara Richard

Hey Everybody!
I wanted to do an introductory post here! My name is Sara Richard and I'm an artist from Rhode Island.
My interests include art (duh!) comics, cartoons, dinosaurs (I draw them lots) and hang gliding (I go outside I swear!) I graduated from the Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio in 2008. Mmyup.

Currently I'm working on putting together a couple children's books as well as a a more adult themed story that mashes fashion design and Paleo-Art. It's a project called "Paleo-Femmes" and some initial concept work can be seen on my website.

I am also a sculptor. I've done a lot of sculpting work for Hasbro on lines such as GI Joe, Jurassic Park, Star Wars and Littlest Petshop. It's a great job, but I'm really trying to focus on promoting my illustration work. My convention run is over for this year, but it ended great with Long Beach Comic Con when I met Emily! (Thanks girl!) Please see my site for shows I'm signed on for next year, there will be more posted soon.

Yeah! So if you'd like to see more of my work, please visit my online website at www.SaraRichard.com

I'm so excited with the  future opportunities from Latchkey! Thank you! :)

Long Beach Comic Con

Sorry for the delayed post on what happened in Long Beach. It was so overwhelmingly awesome it has take us a week just to catch up on everything.

First off we met 2 great new group members. They should have their work up soon as a link in the kid's section or get a sneak peek here.

Setting up for our first convention as a group was interesting. It always takes twice as long as you think it will. But by the second day we had the layout down and even more members to help out! Overall we had a good set up to let the people of Long Beach know about all the great things Latchkey has to offer.

Tons of people signed up for our newsletter to get the skinny on what is happening over here at Latchkey Studios. We also had great success with member Rick Marson's Zoms and Zombees! They sold like hotcakes! It didn't hurt that he went as a zombie himself. With the Walking Dead premiere on Halloween it seemed that Zombies were in the air.

Our other great members also attracted a lot of attention. You can see people were fascinated as Megan Levens drew at the booth. This awesome old man commissioned Megan to draw his grandchildren. Here she sits, wiling away at their portraits.

All of our other members got great attention too! People came for the sparkling conversation and stayed for the artistry. There were too many great things for sale to mention, (Hats with ears, Steampunk Magnets, Martial Arts t-shirts, Anthologies...) so I will let the photos do the talking.

On the last day it was actually Halloween so we all dressed up to scare the kids. We have our resident zombie, sugar skull, Leela and corporate artist. (See the edges of the tie?)

Finally they kicked us out, though we were talking to people until the last minute.

Overall the event was a great success! We grew a little with some great talent, but most of all we were able to bring the projects that we really believe in to a new venue. Look for us to do even more shows and events. Our next destination will be in Emerald City in March. More on that convention later!

The Industry: Bob Schreck Gets the Best Job Ever

This Article highlights an awesome new development in the comics world. Bob Schreck, long time editor at DC and a million other credits is heading up the new division of Legendary Pictures that deals with comic properties.

Bob would come to Savannah College of Art and Design's Editor's Day every year and I was heartbroken when he was let go from DC. He was always patient and the nicest person at the reviews and panels. If anyone deserves to head up this new company it's him. He will do a great job at getting awesome content out there.

Hopefully this will mean we get some good comic book movies for a change. Not that I don't love Batman and Scott Pilgrim but I all but fainted after seeing the new Green Lantern costume. Feel free to hate in the comments. This also means that the film community is seeing comics as a viable pool of great stories. Maybe people will actually start making money at comics now. Don't laugh!

Interview With Latchkey

Emily talks about Latchkey and her influences. If you want to find out more about Ties and how Latchkey was started head over to Douglas Lentes' site Paper Dragon Ink and see what we're all about.

He has a great site that gives tons of information for creatives. You can find a lot of good interviews and posts here. It's always heartwarming to see people supporting the creative community, just like you do Latchkey!

And Then There Were Two

Great news! We have added two new members to Latchkey Studios. Vera and Micah. They both have awesome artwork Here and Here  Vera has a sad little crumbly toast that bumbles through her weekly webcomic and Micah has to be one of the most talented cover/comic artists since Adam Hughes. His colors are amazing. I hope you will check them out and support them. We can't ask for better members.

The Giant Update on Long Beach Comic Con later. We will tell you how it all went down on the beach!
